The Governors Bay Garden Club meets on the second Monday of each month from September to May, inclusive. Meetings are normally held at 7.30pm in the Governors Bay Community Centre, except when the club is conducting garden visits in November and February. During the year club members can enjoy: Springtime and Summertime garden visits; guest speaker talks on garden-related subjects and wider topics of interest; our regular flower/plant, fruit and veg. competitions; participation in the Governors Bay Fete, at which we always have a stall; daytrips to places in the wider Christchurch and Canterbury region; workshops and fun events (e.g. quiz) to fundraise for the club and contribute to worthy local causes. We also hold a Christmas function in December each year.
Our meetings/gatherings are fundamentally a time for connecting with others who have a shared interest in gardening and promoting our sense of community here in Governors Bay. Our expectations of members are flexible in terms of their participation. Although we encourage and welcome members’ participation in all the club’s various meetings and activities, we fully understand that people have other personal commitments which means this is not always possible. That’s fine! Our club would love to welcome you as a new member at any stage, so come on down! To enquire about joining, please email the club’s Secretary at c_glasson@xtra.co.nz. Club membership annual subscription is $20 per person or $30 for family membership. Non-members are also welcome to attend our guest speaker events on any occasion for a $5 entry fee.
