Community Centre

This is a modern, light filled small hall situated in a council reserve with green space and a wonderful view of Lyttelton Harbour.  This is a versatile facility suitable for community groups, meetings, classes, events, small conferences, parties, exhibitions, ceremonies and receptions. It is managed by the Governors Bay Community Association.

To book, fill in the online booking form. A Hirer’s Agreement will be prepared for you which you will need to sign.

Note: calls and emails about use of the community centre will be answered Monday - Friday during office hours.

Cost

FREE – Community Service (meetings that benefit the local community, e.g. PTA, GBCA, Jetty Trust, Bird Safe)

$20 Self- employed tutor (per hour)

$100 Private social events, family functions (per day)

$125 Commercial events – hire by corporates, government and seminars (per day)

$75 Community events with door charges or prepaid tickets

$250 Weekend hire (Friday night to Sunday night) eg weddings

Additional Charges

$300 Bond for events – refund subject to condition of the facility after the event.

Conditions of hire

You must be over the age of 18 to legally hire a Council facility. Click on Terms & Conditions of Hire to view.

No overnight stays are permitted.

Cleaning

The hirer is responsible for cleaning the Community Centre after use and removing all rubbish. It may be possible to arrange a cleaner if required - for more info see linked document Cleaning at GBCC.

124 (50 chairs and six tables)

Health and safety

As part of the rental agreement, the hirer accepts legal responsibilities to meet evacuation plans, health and safety responsibilities and to act as the facility warden.

Hours of hire

Governors Bay Community Centre is available for hire Monday to Sunday, 8am to 11pm (hours outside this may be negotiable).

Alcohol

The consumption of alcohol is permitted in this facility. A special licence is required if selling alcohol or selling tickets to an event where alcohol is supplied. Catering

No organised catering offered.  We are hoping to provide a list of local caterers soon.

Wheelchair access

This centre has wheelchair access via a ramp at the front and rear of the building.

Parking

Three standard car parks and one accessible car park at the rear of the community centre.  You will need request special access to bollard chain.

On-street parking is available on Cresswell Ave.  Please be aware and keep clear of residents’ driveways.

Toilets

Three unisex public toilets under covered walkway which are part of the community centre.
